Passenger and cargo services
Lithuanian railway transport sector provides efficient passenger and cargo services to long-distance routes. During the year, railways carry about 50 million tons of freight and 7 million passengers. Direct rail routes link Lithuania with Russia, Belarus, Latvia, Poland and Germany. Lithuania belongs to TRACECA railway network, which allows transport goods from Lithuania to Asian countries, among them – and to China, easer. In 2011, November, Lithuania reached the first no analogies has, Western Europe with China through Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus and Lithuania joining container train “Saule“ (‘‘Sun‘‘), which started in China. Lithuania offers a shuttle train “Viking”, which connects the Black and Baltic seas.
